Congratulations on the nomination.

This is a very timely post for me. I have a 401k (opened in 2006) and a RothIRA (opened in 2009), but my husband, who is 4 years older than me and is self employed has no retirement accounts. Last year, I set up an ING savings account for him, with teeny $25 monthly contributions to put together a seed fund for his retirement. When it reaches $500, he IS going to open some type of self-employed retirement account, but we haven't thoroughly researched the options yet. Since we're still paying about $1000 to debt (ack!), we aren't able to contribute much for a while, but I want to get my husband in the habit of contributing to a retirement account ASAP. The fact that our debt payments, once paid off, could more than fully fund retirement accounts for both of us makes me ridiculously happy.

So do we! Although between our IRAs, the new SEPs, our HSA, our taxable account, and our extra mortgage payments, we're saving about half of our income, so we're pretty happy with that.
