I wish we'd started off this way. With our first child we bought everything new. At least we got good use out of it, with three kids. Then we sold or donated everything, only to get pregnant one more time. We'd learned our lesson by then - second-hand for almost everything that time around!

Gosh, I love your blog. I've been a follower for a little while and have been blazing through the archives whenever my kid's asleep. To make this relevant to the current post, we're in the second-hand camp, too. I recently purchased all of my 18-month old's winter clothes--25 items including shirts, sweatpants, hats, gloves, and 4 heavy duty jackets--for about $35 at my favorite thrift store. These clothes will last him about 6-8 months and will be saved for hand-me-downs for his future siblings, cousins, and friends (we're the first of our family and friends to have children, though it seems every one else is quickly following suit!).

Thanks for linking to Nature Mommy. What a well-rounded and informative. blog. I'm really looking forward to seeing how her family's adoption goes. The internet is a lovely thing.

When my now 16 year old son was born, we were so broke we could not afford to fix the heater in our home. I remember how God was so faithful to provide for this child. My youngest before he was born was already 5 yrs old, so we had no baby items left at all.

I bought $60 worth of good quality cloth diapers and everything else was given to me. A new crib from my sister, diaper covers from a clothing pantry - so many other things that friends just dropped off saying they just didn't need them anymore.

I jokingly still call him my $60.00 baby!
