Thanks for sharing your "Two Cents" in our new series!

I have to agree that even though I'm addicted to garage sales and auctions the less stuff I have in my home the better I feel. It's freeing not to be surrounded by clutter.

Not having to fill your time with stuff and shopping is truly liberating. If you have ever encountered someone who is of a certain age and who absolutely loves their stuff, you'll see that is often times all they have left in the end.

I have a grandmother who moved far away from her family to buy a big beautiful house in country so that she would have room for all of her stuff. The problem is that it doesn't love her back and she is terribly lonely. The sooner we realize that the "important" stuff in our lives is really not, the happier we'll be.

Great post! :-) Our master closet is sooo screaming to be de-cluttered! There are so many items that came with me on our move from Northern VA to TX 2.5 years ago and some have NEVER been worn here. I rarely shop for myself, but admit when I do, I'm not a big thrifter ... sales and clearance yes, but just haven't had luck at good will. Each time I go searching through my clothes, I end up with piles and junk of items that don't fit, or I plan do NOT like anymore .. all which needs to GO!!! I'm desperate to declutter and I appreciate reading this tonight! Thanks!

You put into words exactly how I've felt this year and starting last. After going on a shopping hiatus for 6 months, getting rid of things I didn't need, clothes that didn't fit, I slowly introduced clothes that fit, were my size and that I needed. I haven't hit up a thrift store since May and while I do pass by on occassion I'm not interested in looking at clothes. It feels liberating not to love clothes but life, experiences and what I already have.

I'd much rather spend my time at a farmer's market or a co-op or read a book or learn a new skill. My neighbor gave me a huge load of fabric that I will eventually start using once my exams are over.

I really applaud your efforts. It's something I wish I could do with regularity. My biggest problem is "curbing" on my biking/walking route. I hate to see something useful thrown out. Last year, I rescued two large (outside) trash bags full of sports equipment (cleats, baseballs, mitts, etc). After picking through it, I ultimately sold a bit at a neighbors yard sale and the rest went to the thrift store. I'd rather not look, but people are SO wasteful!

What a coincidence that you would post on this.

On my To Do List for the weekend is a task to go through my wardrobe and drawers and declutter my clothes. It may seem odd to some people but I am really excited about doing this. It will result in things being more orderly plus I bet I rediscover some items I love but forgot I had!
