We just bought a house too, and I totally know the feeling regarding the yard space. We are upgrading from a second floor apartment with only a patio to a .3 acre property with woods and actual ground! Our goal is also to be self sufficient with food, but mainly veggies - we've got a really awesome farmers market where I get eggs and butter and milk from. So exciting! That is so cool. We wanted to move out west a couple years ago and had the oppurtunity to (my husband's company has an office in CO) and we are kicking ourselves for not making the move. It would have been a little more laid back than the suburbs we live in now. I can't wait to hear all the updates from the coming months. What an exciting time! I also can't believe the sellers didn't have a counter offer. I would say they are definitely un-motivated if they didn't even counter offer after being on the market for a year. They must need that exact amount to break even on their mortgage or something. I think a lot of people are in that boat right now. And just an aside - do you know if you can have backyard chickens for eggs? I only ask because I know a lot of cities have ordinances against chickens...though I think a lot are changing those! yay!
