Sense - We used to have a juicer that we got at a thrift store. It worked great, but we rarely used it. (difficult to clean, never sure what to do with the pulp, etc.) We donated it back to the thrift store when we got our VitaMix. The VitaMix is not cheap - we got ours at Costco for about $400. But I use it multiple times every day, and it's amazing. It will blend up anything, and I throw in nuts, dates, ice cubes, frozen fruit and veggies, beets and sweet potatoes (raw) - pretty much whatever I have on hand. We grow kale and swiss chard and I put large quantities of them into our smoothies too.
A lot of people like the juicer, but I prefer the simplicity of just dumping everything into the blender, blending it up, and then I love how easy it is to clean. Good luck! And I highly recommend www.kristensraw.blogspot.com and www.greenandcrunchy.blogspot.com if you're looking for inspiration in the green smoothie department!

That's cool that your HSA gets invested! Ours just sits there, I think.

Hiya! I'm really interested in your kale smoothies...have been wanting to get into some smoothie action for a while now. I couldn't figure out if I should get a blender or a juicer, or both. any advice? do you just throw it all in the blender and go?
