@Peg - It's costing us $14/month to run our light 18 hours a day. Once we switch to 12 hrs/day (next week, now that all the plants are mature), we'll be paying $9/month. That includes the wind source surcharge we pay on our electric bill. We have a 400 watt grow light, which is on the low end of energy usage as far as grow lights go (some are 1000 watts), but it's working just fine for us. And we included the energy usage charges in our figures when we determined that the system would pay for itself in 6 - 8 months.

I was wondering if you have evaluated your power bills and determined how much your electricity is running? Thanks!

This is so interesting - thanks for keeping us updated.

We are going to try growing lettuce and greens indoors under lights this winter, in a tray. I hope it works; I'd like to extend our growing season. I'd love to do something like you're doing - maybe in the future.

Something I was reading last night said that if you use cloth sanitary pads you can dilute the soaking water and put it over your garden. Not for everyone but an interesting idea (kind of like a placenta tree)

That is so cool! I wish we had a crawl space! We have zero room for a hydroponic garden but it sounds like a great investment, both financially and health wise.
