CJ,
We have two lights in our crawl space, and both are 400 watts. They're on for 15 hours/day. We also have a 200 watt bulb in our outdoor cold frame, which is on for 6 hours/day during the winter. All together, we pay an extra $24/month on our electricity bill, which includes the surcharge we pay for wind energy. We've been eating fresh peppers, tomatoes, and greens all winter, and LOVE our hydroponic system. It is somewhat high maintenance - my husband checks the pH every couple days, keeps the water topped up, and has to change out the water completely and add fresh nutrients every two weeks. But he loves it, and it works great for someone who enjoys gardening. Have fun with it!

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog. I would love to put a hydroponic unit in our crawl space. Do you know how many lights you bought, the size( output etc), the cost and about how much it raised your power bill? We had a hydro garden outside in the desert but now live in the mountains. I would love to try it if I could afford the bill and lights.
