Monday Blog Round Up
I usually do this on Sundays, but I didn’t think of it until I was nearly asleep last night, and I decided that crawling out of bed at midnight to go write a blog post might make me an obsessive blogger. So I rolled over and went to sleep. My Sunday round up is happening today instead.
First, from the Frugal Blog Network:
Shanti at Antishay Ventenne has a post about why expensive shoes are a better bet than cheap ones. She makes lots of good points (that apply to lots of things, not just shoes), and we both added some thoughts in the comments. If you love shoes, it does make sense to buy good ones. (As long as you don’t have consumer debt and you’re not relying on anyone else to provide for you - if that’s your situation, you should probably be focusing on something other than building up a shoe wardrobe!)
Not Made Of Money reminds us of all the great deals that can be found as summer draws to a close. There will be a summer again next year, and you’ll need all of the same stuff. As long as you have a place to store it, you might as well stock up now.
Andy at Tight Fisted Miser quit his job, and now he’s thinking of ways to make money while he’s going to school. Lots of good ideas here.
Kelly at Almost Frugal is giving her linens a new lease on life - with dye. Much cheaper than buying new stuff, and better for the world than constantly tossing old stuff and buying new. I love this idea - I’ve never used dye, but I think I might have to give it a try…
And some other highlights from around the blogosphere:
The Green Baby Guide has some great tightwad tips for raising babies - from Amy Dacyczyn herself! Great tips - we’re using them and can attest to the money they save.
Kyle at Rather Be Shopping as an excellent post about the subprime mortgage bailout. I understand that the mortgage mess is having an impact on the entire economy, not just on the people who bought more house than they could afford. And I understand that a lot of people were absolutely taken advantage of by unscrupulous mortgage brokers. But Kyle makes some great points regarding people who just bought more house than they could afford. To his list of questions for these folks, I would include a few more:
- How many TV channels do you get?
- How big is your house?
- How big is your closet? Is it full?
- What kind of phone do you have?
- Where in the world did you get the idea of a 3% fixed rate mortgage? Have you met anyone with a deal this good?!?
Notes From The Frugal Trenches is keeping track of no spending days. Her blog details the ups and downs of it, and she’s doing a bang-up job of it… 21 days in July with no spending at all!!
Thanks for the mention! I honestly think No Spending Days have transformed me!
Thanks for linking to the Green Baby Guide! I am going to check out your other recommendations. I do love a great tightwad tip!
Thanks for the mention. I really like your additional questions! I may just have to go back and add them to my post. (and give you credit of course!)
