Free Veggies!

We’ve been spending about $15/week on dark green leafy veggies since January, when I started making green smoothies every day. We love how healthy we feel drinking the smoothies, but paying for the greens adds up fast. Happily, our garden is now producing, and we shouldn’t have to buy any greens until about November (our swiss chard always lasts through October at least). Our little garden plot is overflowing with dark green lettuce, swiss chard, spinach, kale, and a few other mixed greens. All for less than $5 in seeds and one afternoon of digging in the dirt (although that was tougher than it sounds, because I did it two weeks before our son was born…)

I enjoy your blog and am always pleased when you post daily.

  2. We live in an apartment but have a container garden on our deck. Things are just starting to be big enough to eat now… the spinach and lettuce are doing great!

I love gardening and can’t wait until we have a house and have a big one. It’s fun.. and frugal!
