All Things Eco Blog Carnival
The post I wrote about our organic crib mattress was included today in the All Things Eco Carnival. This blog began as a finance/frugality blog, but I’ve noticed that I tend to write quite a bit about eco-friendly living and ways that we incorporate frugal and green practices into our life. So I wanted to get to know some of the eco-friendly blogs out there, and this carnival has given me lots to read. The carnival is hosted at Focus Organic, so head over there to check out some good environmentally friendly posts. I find that many times the frugal option is also the green option, so I think the two subjects go together very well.
I liked the post from EcoSalon about saving honey bees.   And one of the things we can do involves eating ice cream… I especially like the tip about not using insecticides or pesticides on our lawns and gardens. The more I think about it - why does anybody need to put chemicals on their yards? I don’t buy conventionally raised food anymore, because I’m convinced that organic is a better way to go, and I’m willing to pay more for it, both for my own health and to support the organic farmers. But I do understand that for a lot of people, the lower prices on conventionally raised food is a necessity, so I can understand the use of chemicals in for-profit farming. But what is the point in using chemicals on your yard? You’re not selling anything you grow there, and if you are eating stuff you grow in your own garden, it makes a lot more sense to not be eating chemicals. If you plant native species of flowers and grasses, rotate your veggies, and use compost, you can have a great yard without using any toxic chemicals at all. And it might even help the honey bees!!
The Purloined Letter has a post about not buying anything for a month- see I told you that frugal living and eco-friendly living go hand in hand! And Rekindled has a post about 30 easy ways to save the planet - again, a lot of these are easy on the budget too.Â
Money Blue Book has a post about Boca burgers- a favorite in the Frugal Babe household, although we’re also big fans of Morningstar Farms. And a shout out for the vegan lifestyle - seems that it’s even better for the world than eating locally produced food. Makes me feel even better about the pot of beans I cooked today…
Thanks for posting about the carnival! I was surprised (and excited) about how many people sent in their links, considering it was the first edition. I really enjoyed reading through all the posts and I hope all the other editions go as well
