Blog Advertising

When I first started writing my blog last September, I enjoyed reading the blogs of people who made money by advertising on their sites.  Come on, who doesn’t like that idea?  But then the blog took on a life of its own.  Since it’s about money and frugality and stretching dollars, which are as much a part of my life as eating and breathing, I have something to write about all the time.  If I don’t make a post on a given day, it’s for lack of time, not lack of ideas.

I’ve looked into some pay-per-post schemes, but I hate the idea of having to review a certain product and write about it.  I don’t really want to be told what to write about at all.  That’s why I have my own blog - I’m not writing for anyone else or getting paid to write, so I get to say pretty much whatever I want.  But recently, I’ve come across Kontera being used on several blogs, including fellow pf blogger TBH.  I signed up with them last week, and for now, I’m liking it.  I still get to write whatever I want, but then their software goes through my post and finds words that fit the keyword requirements of their advertisers.  They make that word into a link and it’ll show up underlined twice in blue.  (any other link in a post is put there by me, for your education and entertainment)  I was a little hesitant to try to turn Frugal Babe into a moneymaker, but after all, this is a blog about finances.  And while I’m usually all about stretching the dollars we have, it can’t hurt to try to get a few more.
