Our Net Worth
After blogging for two months about money, I decided to fill in one of those net worth calculators. We’re at $68,813. Not too bad, and it’s headed up, which is good.  Our goal is to be at or above $88,813 by the end of 2007. Between our mortgage going down, our IRAs going up, and our credit card balance going away, we should be able to do it if we keep on being as frugal as ever. And if I keep on reading everyone’s great ideas for stretching a little money a long way. I’m excited to track our net worth each month. I’ve always had a rough idea of it in my head, and I’ve kept a notebook of our debts for the last couple years. But it’s nice to have a specific number to look at. Â
[...] Anyway, since the vast majority of our debts are gone, I’ve stopped writing in my notebook. It was satisfying for a while to see all the zeroes, but now that there’s only the mortgage and Discover Card, I have the numbers in my head and don’t need to write them down anymore. I did start using a net-worth calculator last month, which I’ll keep doing, because I liked seeing everything in black and white. But what about goals? Maybe if I write them down, they won’t always be swimming around in my head, throwing themselves into my thoughts at random times - like when I’m about to fall asleep. [...]
