A Long Walk

For the past week, J and I had been planning a trip to Applebees on Friday night.  We had a coupon for $5 off a dinner there, and it’s one of J’s favorite restaurants.  We hardly ever go out to eat, so when we do, it’s cause for celebration around here.  Applebees is only about a mile away from our house, so we had decided to walk there.  It was a beautiful evening, and we were enjoying our walk, and talking about how hungry we were and how good dinner was going to taste.

When we were about 2/3 of the way there, I suddenly remembered that I had forgotten to grab the coupon before we left the house.  I told J, and said that we’d have to go back for it.  His stomach was starting to digest itself by this point, so I don’t think the idea of adding 20 minutes to our walk sounded good to him.  But he’s a trooper, and used to my frugal ways.  So back we went, with J teasing me about how the only time we ever spend money is when we have a coupon (mostly true) and that somehow we always forget the coupon and end up having to go back for it (also mostly true).

We ended up having a wonderful dinner, and probably enjoying it more because we were so hungry from all the extra walking.  And I loved seeing the $5 subtracted from the bill.  If only I had a sure-fire way to remember to take my coupons with me wherever we go… J suggested that I keep them in my purse, but thanks to a HUGE thrift store about half a mile from our house, I have quite a collection of purses and never know which one I’ll feel like taking.  I could leave the coupons in the car, but that doesn’t help when we’re walking.  I can stick them on the fridge, but then they’ll just be stuck to the fridge while I’m at a checkout counter wondering where they are.  Looks like we’ll just keeping having to go back for them.
